CONTENT OF COURSES:

Child Protection and the Law

Suitable for anyone working with children or in the field of child law, this course sets out the law in relation to child protection. The course will cover (1) the Legal Framework, including the background, key roles in protecting children and legal restrictions affecting children such as sexual activity and employment of children; (2) Definitions and Indicators of Child Abuse; (3) Practical Issues arising when there is a report or disclosure of child abuse; and (4) What Happens Next - Protection for the Child and Consequences for the Adult.

Children’s Rights and Responsibilities

Suitable for anyone working with children or in the field of child law, this course sets out the legal framework of children’s rights and responsibilities. The course examines the development of children’s rights and the recognition of children’s rights and responsibilities in Scots Law, looking at children in the family, children as citizens and children in the justice system. Particular areas covered include the interaction with parental rights and responsibilities, physical punishment, medical treatment, employment, data protection, confidentiality, education, sexual activity, alcohol, instructing a lawyer, police powers, vulnerable witnesses, antisocial behaviour and criminal records.

Children’s Hearings

Suitable for those with some or no experience of the children’s hearings system this course sets out to give an understanding of the system, in order that delegates will be able to explain to children and families what is happening. The course will cover referral processes, investigations, the role of the reporter, grounds of referral, children’s hearings, sheriff court proofs, supervision requirements and emergency procedures.

Giving Evidence in Court

Suitable for those who work with children, with little or no experience of giving evidence in court who may find themselves called as a witness in the course of their employment. This course sets out (1) the Background to the Scottish Legal System, looking at civil courts, criminal courts and the children’s hearings system; (2) Categories of Witness, Preparation for Court and Going to Court; (3) treatment of Vulnerable Witnesses in the courts; and (4) Giving Evidence.

Pricing Policy:

£80 (1/2 day) £150 (full day) per delegate per training event

£60 (1/2 day) £100 (full day) per delegate per training event for voluntary organisations and concessions

If we cancel: In the event that we require to cancel the event for any reason, we will contact you as early as possible in writing.  We will endeavour to reschedule the training.  If this is not possible you will be entitled to a refund of any monies paid.

6-10 working days

50% of the fee will be due

5 working days or less

100% of the fee will be due
