About the Training

The past few years have seen significant developments in the law relating to relevant persons, siblings, and the right to participate in Children’s Hearings. These developments culminated in the Children (Scotland) Act 2020, which was passed in February 2021 and will take effect on 26 July 2021. This training course will give an overview of these developments and explain what they mean in practice for children and young people in Scotland.

This training is open to all but will be particularly useful to anyone who supports care experienced children and young people. This session is also suitable for trainee solicitors.

At the end of this training you will:

  • Understand what it means to be a ‘relevant person’ and how to identify when someone is likely to meet this definition.
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of the changes to the rights of brothers and sisters in Children’s Hearings being brought about by the Children (Scotland) Act 2020
  • Learn what participation of siblings in Children’s Hearings will look like after the new Act comes into effect
