
About the training
This training course will outline recent developments in children’s rights in Scotland and look at upcoming changes to the law such as the Children (Scotland) Act 2020. Through case studies and questions, we will explore the practical applications of children’s rights in a range of different situations and scenarios. We will also discuss children’s capacity to instruct a lawyer and how the lawyer-client relationship works for children in practice.
This training is open to all but will be particularly useful to frontline workers who support children and young people in Scotland. This session is also suitable for trainee solicitors.
At the end of this training, you will:
- Have developed your knowledge and understanding of children’s rights issues in Scotland.
- Feel confident identifying children’s rights issues in a range of contexts.
- Understand how to use children’s rights to secure improved outcomes for children and young people.

About the trainers
Claire Osborne and Jenna Hall are both lawyers at Clan Childlaw. Claire joined Clan Childlaw in 2019 and has a background in working with vulnerable clients, including unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and victims of human trafficking. Jenna has focused on children’s rights throughout her career, joining Clan Childlaw as a trainee and now working here as a fully qualified solicitor. They both work with children and young people every day to make sure that their rights are being upheld.
Price
This interactive lawyer-led training session is £70 per person. The training will take place on Zoom and spaces are limited to allow for proper interaction and discussion.
