Lawyers for Children is a unique membership opportunity for legal professionals who are interested in developing their skills in representing children and young people.

Our vision is for a Scotland where all children and young people’s rights are respected, protected and fulfilled. For that to happen, Scotland must be a place where all children and young people can stand up for their rights. As a member you will be part of a professional community that shares a commitment to a Scotland where children have access to their rights.

Why Join Lawyers for Children?

If your legal practice involves the representation of children and young people, then our unique Lawyers for Children membership will support you to develop skills in child centred practice. As the UNCRC is incorporated into domestic law, it is vitally important for solicitors to consider the specific needs of younger clients who will be looking to enforce these new rights. Our membership will provide you with the information and support you need to adapt your practice to meet that increasing need.

Why us?

Clan Childlaw is a children’s charity and centre for excellence in child centred legal representation. For 16 years Clan has been delivering pioneering child centred legal outreach services and have learned exactly what being a good lawyer for children means. We have developed a unique set of communication skills and knowledge about child development, trauma and children’s environments and experience, enabling us to put the child’s needs and views at the centre of legal processes. Clan calls this working in a “child-centred” way.

We bring that unique practice-based knowledge to every aspect of our work from our specialist training to our helpline supporting others who help children to use their voices and their rights, to our work to influence children’s rights respecting changes to practice, policy and law.
